Buyer - Engineering - West Midlands

If you've already worked in engineering and understand the procurement cycle, this could be the next step you've been looking for.

You may already be someone buying materials, speaking to suppliers, getting prices and chasing orders, but without the Buyer title yet.

There are around 50 people in the business and they're growing. Turnover is currently just under £5 million, with plans to reach £6 million by June 2027 and £10 million by June 2029.

They have invested heavily in machinery, built a strong management team and now the purchasing function needs to grow with the rest of the business.

As Buyer, you'll report into the Technical Manager, purchasing both raw materials and finished goods.

You'll be dealing with around 30 to 50 regular suppliers, negotiating on price, keeping an eye on lead times and finding new suppliers when needed.

You might be a Purchasing Coordinator, working in Supply Chain, or even come from Sales, buying is, in a lot of ways, the reverse of selling.

If you've worked in sales within engineering, you already know how to negotiate, ask the right questions, build relationships, and have commercial conversations. You'll just be having them from the other side of the table.

If you can read an engineering drawing and understand the sizes and materials required, even better, but it isn't essential.

What matters is that you understand engineering, have a good grasp of the procurement cycle and are confident speaking to people.

As Buyer here you won't just be placing orders, you'll get to know the suppliers, understand where costs can be improved and look at where the business might need another option.

You could already be a Junior Buyer, Purchasing Coordinator, Supply Chain Coordinator or working in an engineering role where buying has become part of what you do, and as the business grows, the Buyer position will grow with it.

The purchasing function is expected to become bigger over the next few years, so there is room for you to take on more as you develop.

Your working hours will be 8am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, with a 4pm finish on Friday.

Salary is £35,000 to £38,000, depending on experience.
