Croydon, Greater London | £50,000–£60,000 salary bracket | On-Site / Workshop-Based | Mechanical investigations, overhauls and technical engineering
Hands-on. Analytical. Customer-facing. Problem solver. If that sounds like you, this engineering team wants you in their workshop.
They’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who loves real engineering — fault investigations, overhaul prep, BoM checks, tooling design, method statements, technical reports, and everything in between. This is a role where your engineering judgement genuinely matters and your work directly improves product reliability, customer satisfaction, and business performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leading fault and warranty investigations — from diagnosis through to customer communication and final reporting.
Producing clear, accurate technical documentation: method statements, overhaul instructions, test procedures, FAIs, concessions, and engineering change requests.
Supporting overhaul projects with hands-on engineering input and technical problem solving.
Reviewing BoMs, drawings, and technical documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Working closely with Sales, Projects, Production, Purchasing, Operations, Quality, and the Shop Floor.
Representing the business in customer technical meetings and on-site support.
Designing tooling, analysing materials, and contributing to product improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
What You Bring
HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a mechanical engineering discipline.
6+ years’ experience across mechanical engineering, testing, investigations, and technical process writing.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to work from first principles.
A genuinely hands-on, flexible, proactive approach.
Excellent communication skills with internal teams and external customers.
Commercial awareness — understanding how engineering decisions impact contracts and future business.
Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, BS 8888, and overhaul production processes.
Enthusiasm for mechanical engineering and a drive to continuously learn.
Experience with driveline products (gearboxes, couplings, cardan shafts, rail couplers, marine drives) is a bonus, not a requirement.
Why This Role Matters
You’ll be a credible technical resource — strengthening engineering capability, improving customer engagement, and driving product reliability. Your investigations, engineering change proposals, and BoM optimisation will help reduce costs, improve performance, and support future sales growth.
